A wealthy businessman (Tyler Perry) has always put aside his dreams and done as he was told by his father, his mom (Phylicia Rashad) and his fiancée (Gabrielle Union). However, he changes when he meets a disadvantaged single mom (Thandie Newton), working in his office building as a janitor. Offering to help her inspires him to start following his own dreams. SEX/NUDITY 4 - A fully clothed couple are shown close to the windows of their high-rise apartment, thrusting and grimacing, suggesting sex; the next morning, she tells him that it was as if he was making love with someone else.
 Several scenes show a woman and a man kissing briefly. A woman kisses a man and he stops her and says he is engaged to another woman. A man tries to kiss a woman and she pushes him away, telling him he does not know what he wants. A woman tells a man that she is scared, but will risk a relationship with him, and they kiss.
 A woman tells a man that he is predictable, even in lovemaking. A man says "ass" and a woman with him asks if that means he wants sex; he says no, but that the first time they met, that's what she called him. We hear that a man is sleeping with several women who work in the offices of the family business.
 Throughout the film, a man and a woman live together, unmarried. An engaged couple breaks up because she does not want children.
 A fashion show and several gatherings show women wearing short skirts that reveal most of their thighs and legs and some women wear blouses that reveal cleavage. A few scenes feature a woman wearing a slip that reveals cleavage. Several scenes show a man in a fogged-up glass shower and his bare shoulders and arms are seen; one such scene shows his bare knees as he sits on a shower bench.

VIOLENCE/GORE 3 - Two men fistfight at an office party: they move into the office corridors and into an elevator where one man knocks down the other man and they get stuck in the elevator car (we see one man with a bloody nose and the other with reddened knuckles). A man and a woman fight on a sidewalk after walking out of a hotel high-rise; he calls her "trick" and she throws packages at him and walks away.
 A woman and her daughter spend a night in a homeless shelter, but a man attacks the woman and she runs out with her daughter. A man tells his mother to go to hell and she slaps him hard in the face.
 A woman returns homes to find her possessions set on the sidewalk; she gets out of her car and argues with the building manager as other drivers honk and yell at her and she shouts at them, gets in her car, and drives away. A man shouts at different people in several scenes (some of the arguments occur while he is drinking), insulting them and later claiming he only told them the truth (please see the Substance Use category for more details). A woman and two men get into an argument in a parking garage over a parking spot; the woman and one of the men shout and call each other names. A woman gets into several arguments with a man, sometimes crying and shouting. Throughout the film, a man argues with his brother about their family business. Twice, we hear that a secretary was mugged beside an office building at night after working late.
 A widow and her young daughter sleep in their car and wash up at a filthy gas station restroom.

LANGUAGE 3 - 2 sexual references, 15 anatomical terms, 14 mild obscenities, exclamations (shut up), name-calling (Mr. CEO, midget, trick, black, trailer park cheerleader, jerk, old white man, Mr. Maldives, downers, worry wart), stereotypical references to professional image, parents, the rich, the poor, alcoholics, black women, Uncle Toms, white businessmen, homosexuals, homelessness, weddings, biological clock, child neglect, 4 religious exclamations.

SUBSTANCE USE - When a man's mother complains about his drinking he says that it should be a mountain of cocaine because of her, two bar scenes feature many men and woman drinking cocktails and some appear drunk (they stumble and slur their speech), a drunken woman stumbles into her apartment with help of two friends and she giggles and shouts, a man asks about a woman's previous drunkenness and she blames overwork at her office, an office celebration features several dozen men and women drinking champagne, we hear that a man has received several DUIs and lost his driver's license, a man is shown drinking alcohol in several scenes, and we hear that a man is attending a 12-step program. A man leaves a lunch saying he is stepping out to smoke.
