A 10 year old boy (Jacob Tremblay) born with unique facial features enters the 5th grade after having been home-schooled. While trying to fit in and feel ordinary he has to deal with the reaction from the other children. Also with Julia Roberts, Owen Wilson, Izabela Vidovic and Mandy Patinkin. SEX/NUDITY 1 - A teenage boy tells a teenage girl, "I really wanna kiss you, but I don't know how you will respond," and they kiss. A teen boy and a teen girl kiss in a couple of scenes. A teen boy and a teen girl hug and she kisses him on the cheek. A husband gives his wife a gift and when she opens the box she laughs and says that she will keep it for later (we do not see what's in the box), and they kiss.
 A woman wears a low-cut top that reveals cleavage.

VIOLENCE/GORE 3 - Several boys approach two boys in a wooded area and mock one boy's appearance; one boy is shoved and falls on the ground hitting his head on a rock and two other boys fight with the aggressors (the first two run away and one boy has blood on his head). A boy punches another boy in the face and they wrestle on the floor until they are pulled apart by two teachers (we do not see injuries or blood).
 Whenever a boy with unique facial features walks through a courtyard or hallway at school, other children back away from him and stare. A boy is pelted with balls while playing dodgeball at school.
 A woman carries a dog out of their home and we understand that the dog was put to sleep. A woman screams during childbirth and when the child is born and he is wrapped up and rushed out of the room by a nurse (we do not see the child).
 A science fair volcano project blows up in a boy's face (we see his face covered with a dark powder, but he is OK).
 Boys insult and call another boy with unique facial features names in several scenes throughout the movie. A boy yells in frustration in a few scenes. A teenage girl and her mother argue in a few scenes. A boy asks a boy with unique facial features, "What's the deal with your face?" A man makes reference to a lamb being led to slaughter. A boy says, "Ordinary kids don't get stared at." A boy says, "Kids aren't good at hiding the truth." A father tells his son, "You're gonna feel all alone, but you're not," as he goes off to school on the first day. A boy says, "People don't like to touch me." Children say that if they touch a boy with unique facial features, they will get the plague. A boy says, "I would kill myself if I looked like that." A boy says, "I would wear a bag over my head." A boy avoids another boy and won't tell him why. A boy draws a picture of a horror movie character and puts a boy's name on it, and then gives the drawing to the boy with the phrase, "Do everyone a favor and die." A wife says to her husband, "Let's get drunk" (they are not shown drunk).
 A boy puts his face in his tuna sandwich in a school lunch room and we see tuna on his chin. A woman says, "Your brother just threw up at school" (we do not see this). Several children burp at a lunch table. Two boys go to the woods to urinate and defecate (they are interrupted by other boys). A teen girl says that she is going to throw up (she does not).

LANGUAGE 3 - 3 scatological terms, 5 anatomical terms (one in Yiddish), 2 mild obscenities, name-calling (freak, crazy, idiot, stupid, crazy kid, weird, dude, nuts, phony, monster, barf hideous, nerd, bad egg, ugly, losers, little dude, jerk), exclamations (shut-up, oh my gosh, ), 6 religious exclamations (Dear God, Oh My God, God Speed, Jesus, God No, Holy [scatological term deleted]).

SUBSTANCE USE - A man and a woman drink from glasses of wine, and a man pours two glasses of wine (no one drinks).

DISCUSSION TOPICS - Being different, being ordinary, bullying, friendship, home schooling, fear, rules, kindness, floppy discs, family, guilt, putting a family pet to sleep.

MESSAGE - Our deeds are our monuments. Real friends are hard to find.

Be aware that while we do our best to avoid spoilers it is impossible to disguise all details and some may reveal crucial plot elements.
